The breakout scene helped launch Margot Robbie’s career, even if filming it was far from comfortable
Margot Robbie has built a reputation for taking on bold roles in films such as Focus, Babylon, and most recently Wuthering Heights, where she has not shied away from intense or provocative scenes.
Her role in Wuthering Heights placed her at the center of a moment that some people predicted would be “more shocking” than the now-viral bathtub scene in Saltburn.
Although many viewers later felt the Emerald Fennell romance was less extreme than its marketing suggested, Robbie’s earlier performances still stand out, and audiences continue to revisit the roles that defined her career.
Even though she has appeared in several acclaimed films since then, many people still connect the Australian actor most strongly with one title: The Wolf of Wall Street.
While Barbie brought her major awards attention, it was The Wolf of Wall Street that marked her breakthrough and introduced her to a global audience.
In the film, Robbie portrayed Naomi Lapaglia, also known as “The Duchess,” who begins as Jordan Belfort’s mistress before becoming his wife.

Among the film’s many provocative moments, one of the most memorable takes place in a nursery, where her character teases Belfort following one of his drunken episodes.
Without describing every detail, the scene involves a charged exchange between the characters that left a strong impression on viewers, even though there is no explicit nudity shown.
Although Dr. Nadine Macaluso, the real-life woman Naomi was based on, later said that the scene did not happen in real life, the nursery confrontation has become one of the most recognizable moments from The Wolf of Wall Street.
Robbie later spoke about how filming that scene was far from glamorous, explaining that she felt “weird and embarrassed” while shooting it.
She shared that, even though the finished scene does not appear uncomfortable on screen, the reality was that it took place inside a very small bedroom set with around 30 crew members crowded into the space.
Speaking to Porter Magazine, she noted that the entire crew present at the time consisted of men, and said: “For 17 hours I’m pretending to be touching myself.”
“It’s just a very weird thing and you have to bury the embarrassment and absurdity, really deep, and fully commit.”
In a more recent interview released on February 16, Robbie reflected on how surprised she was by the size of her role in the film. She explained that she had not expected to be featured so prominently.
Appearing on the Smartless podcast, she said she “hadn’t really braced herself for how much things would change” after the movie was released and her profile rose so quickly.
Looking back on the film’s explicit scenes, she admitted that she did not watch the full movie until the evening before its premiere, adding:
“I organised a family and friends screening and I sat down and the credits started and I suddenly was like ‘oh my god I’m naked, I’m fully naked and they’re all about to see it’, I mean there’s scenes where we’re like having sex on a bed of cash. My brother is right next to me!”
She explained that by the end of the screening, her family members were left “stunned,” and she described the overall experience as deeply uncomfortable for her.
