The Charlie’s Angels star said she can go ‘years’ without sex while reacting to Andrew Garfield’s comments.
Drew Barrymore is known for speaking her mind, and she once did just that when she opened up about a personal detail involving her sex life.
Her comments came after Andrew Garfield revealed that he chose to abstain from sex for six months while preparing for his role as a Jesuit priest in the 2016 film Silence.
The movie is set in the 17th century, and Garfield said he committed himself fully to the character. He explained that he followed strict lifestyle changes, created new spiritual routines, and practiced celibacy for half a year in order to portray the role with authenticity.
Barrymore, however, did not react with shock or admiration. Instead, she joked that six months did not sound like a particularly long time to her.

Discussing Garfield’s revelation during a 2022 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, she turned to co-host Ross Matthews and asked: “What’s wrong with me that six months doesn’t seem like a very long time? I was like, ‘Yeah so?'”
Matthews responded by joking that he had “abstained” from sex for his “entire twenties.” He then summed up the exchange by saying: “We buried the lede there, that’s the headline. Drew can go six months, no big deal.”
Barrymore took it even further and added: “Oh, years.”
As of 2026, the Charlie’s Angels actress does not have a confirmed public partner. She has not been in a long-term relationship since her divorce from Will Kopelman in 2016. The former couple share two children, and Barrymore has spoken openly about taking a careful and thoughtful approach to dating while also appreciating the independence that comes with being single.
More recently, the 50-year-old host of The Drew Barrymore Show said she feels “grossed out” by the idea of dating a man in his 20s. Large age gaps in Hollywood relationships are not unusual, but she made it clear that it is not something she is interested in.
Barrymore admitted she has had a “bad run” in her love life, yet she also stressed that she has no desire to pursue a significantly younger partner.

During a segment on her talk show, Ross commented: “Can everybody remember that dating is supposed to be fun? You know, like, go out and just have fun.”
Barrymore responded with humor, saying: “Can you tell the men I go on dates with that? Because they have lost the memo. I love to, like, date from Psychos.com. I’m not kidding. I’ve had a bad run.”
Sunny Anderson then asked whether Barrymore had considered “trying [dating], like, the 20-somethings?”
Barrymore quickly shut down the idea. “You know what? No. I’m totally grossed out by that. No, I have children and it seems wrong now.”
